Biography
If there would be a music-equivalent of the word 'filmmaker', this would be the most accurate way to describe Aiko's practice. At a young age, he got introduced to music in a spontaneous, intuitive way through his elder brother which made him continue to pursue music studies. Through his practice as a live-musician for bands and theatre and his studies of Music Therapy and Composition at Lemmensinstituut (Luca School of Arts), he evolved into a multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer with a background in both jazz and classical music.
Aiko's passion for the diversity of sounds produced by musical instruments or sound-objects, translates to compositions and productions with a deeper relationship to the subject. When scoring for a film, he looks for balance between originality and affective, associative and sound-oriented scores, still keeping also a functional approach, to not overshadow the film or documentary he writes for.
Next to his work as a film composer, Aiko is active as a producer and multi-instrumentalist for various musical and interdisciplinary projects and teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
